A Palm Lake Resort Truganina lawn bowls team beat Brunswick Bowls Club to win the Metropolitan Division 7 Pennant at Mitcham Bowls Club recently. There were initially 100 teams in 10 divisions across Melbourne.
The Palm Lake Resort players were premiers in Section 1 and moved up to play the other nine divisional winners to finally take out the top gong in the competition. They each returned to the resort with a championship medal and the Division 7 Premiership Flag will soon be on display in the Palm Lake Bowls Club. The win was a brilliant team effort considering the club has only been playing together for three years in the pennant competition.
In further good news out of the competition, the Tuesday Division 4 team won its section final as well, beating Melton Bowls Club by one shot.
This year, Palm Lake Resort Truganina entered five teams in the Tuesday and Saturday competition and four of those teams made it through to their respective sectional finals. Next season, the club is hoping to field more players in the competition, enabling more local teams to vie for another shot at the championship.
Palm Lake Resort Truganina’s lawn bowls competitors are now taking a well-deserved break until the next pennant season commences in late September. Until then, social bowls will be held most Saturdays with all residents welcome to come and try out the sport. You never know – you might be part of the next winning team!
