The 2022 Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett Housing and Construction Awards have been announced and Palm Lake Resort Bargara’s recently completed Horizons Country Club has taken out two top gongs.
More than 25 builders, projects and individuals were recognised at the event held at Bundaberg Multiplex on August 5. Awarded ‘Best Sporting Facility’ earlier in the evening, Horizons Country Club went on to also claim the coveted ‘Project of the Year’ award.
Independent industry judges say they love the tropical holiday-everyday feel of this facility, that comes complete with a four-lane bowling alley, three-hole mini golf course, pool, spa, fire pit area, bar, dining options, community meeting and activity rooms and more.
“From the minute you arrive under the grand porte- cochère, the tropical opulence of this facility is apparent,” MBA judges say. “Contrasting, yet coordinating textures abound.”
As the third major community hub for our ever-expanding Palm Lake Resort Bargara address, Horizons Country Club was cleverly designed to be the perfect place for everything from summer cocktails poolside, to mulled wine on a winter’s evening around the firepit. From fun-filled family games of tenpin and mini golf to quiet catchups with neighbours over coffee, this build boasts all the cosmetic bells and whistles.
As far as finishes go, the crisp white horizontal lines of the building’s exterior CSR cladding contrast with textured sections of light-coloured Eco Outdoor granite veneer. There’s warm cedar detail in the porte cochère ceiling and lush, cool, green tropical landscaping that hugs the whole building. Inside, oversized pendant lights – in both slick architectural styles and relaxed, textural raffia – denote various welcoming seating nooks while the vertical lines of the blonde wood detailing enhance the height and space. The overall feeling of whiteness, lightness and brightness inside Horizons Country Club is peppered with moments of unexpected interest. Bright-coloured abstract wall art, expanses of pink and green tropical wallpaper and the deep green leaves of the mature indoor trees are vibrant colour pops, as are the moments of rich green velvet and pale mint green upholstery, for example.
Our design team also ensured the facility’s internal construction elements work just as hard as the attention- grabbing cosmetic ones. For example, Acoufelt sound proofing panels ensure visitors’ acoustic enjoyment inside, while the external CSR Hebel PowerPanel provides even more acoustic insulation as well as sustainable thermal insulation and fire resistance.
Master Builders’ Wide Bay Burnett Regional Manager, Ian Langer, congratulated the winners across all categories.
“2022 was a year of unexpected challenges and hurdles, but our industry took it in their stride and produced some truly outstanding work,” Ian says.
“From beautiful homes celebrating the coastal lifestyle, to community facilities and even a radio station, this year’s projects are nothing short of breathtaking.”
